Installer’s Review – The Benefits of Lunawood ThermoWood®

The Icy Hot Chalet Levi, perched on the foothills of Levi, is an impressive building project that combines luxury with environmentally conscious architecture. Forty high-end holiday apartments and a wide range of commercial and service facilities will make the project the new jewel in the crown of the region.

The Luna Panel System product family used in the exterior cladding of the Icy Hot Chalet brings playfulness and rhythmicity to the building. Made up of panels of different widths, the cladding is not only beautiful but also technically advanced. Site carpenter Tomi Aikio says that the dimensional stability of the material and the high-quality tongue and grooves made the installation smooth, even though the autumn weather conditions in Lapland presented their own challenges.

“The quality of Lunawood’s products was evident in everything – from the protection of the panels to the workability of the material itself. I particularly appreciated how well the products stood up to the challenges of moisture.” Aikio praises.

The autumn challenges were managed with skill and product quality remained good

“Although the autumn humidity required precision, the products withstood everything without any problems. We found nothing to complain about in the quality of Lunawood,” Aikio sums up his experience.

The precise rhythm of the project’s facade required cooperation and care from the carpenters

The installation of the exterior cladding of the Icy Hot Chalet required particular care and planning. The rhythm of the façade was pre-defined with four Luna Panel System panels of different sizes, which required the team to work closely together. Each panel was installed from the bottom up as a single unit, which made the work time-consuming but rewarding.

“There were always two carpenters involved in the installation: one on the crane fixing the panels and the other cutting the lengths with a circular saw. To ensure rhythm, we used printed instructions, which made the job much easier,” Aikio explains.
Built in a ski-in-ski-out style, the Icy Hot Levi complex will enhance the luxurious atmosphere of the whole village. The alpine-style facade in Lunawood ThermoWood will be greyed over time, bringing the property closer to nature's own tones. Visualization by DC3 Design & Consulting
