Allas Pool in Helsinki
Located in the heart of Helsinki, Allas Pool recently underwent a major renovation. At the core of the refurbishment was the complete replacement of the pool deck and the renewal of the sauna benches. The spa welcomes more than 250,000 visitors every year and is open year-round, which places high demands on both safety and durability.
Reliable Decking for Heavy Use
Lunawood was selected as a partner because its thermally modified spruce decking is well-suited for demanding marine and humid conditions. Long lifespan, low maintenance, and Finnish origin were key criteria in the choice.
The decking installed in this project is Luna SHP Profix 3 6/4×7 Brushed, which combines a durable brushed surface with a hidden fixing system for a clean appearance and extended service life.

Sustainable Nordic Wood
The decking boards used are manufactured in Finland from PEFC- and FSC-certified Nordic spruce. The patented ThermoWood® process uses only heat and steam – no chemicals – creating a sustainable and dimensionally stable material that remains pleasant under bare feet.
“The Allas Pool renovation is an important reference for Lunawood, not only because of its central location but also because the project highlights values that we share: sustainability, well-being, and Nordic design. It is a place where Finnish identity is visible, also through the materials,” notes Markus Lehmuskorpi, Area Director Nordics and Baltics at Lunawood.
The brushed surface of the decking emphasizes the natural grain of the wood and develops a beautiful patina over time. The hidden fixing system ensures a clean and uniform appearance, combining functionality with aesthetics.
Saunas with Lunawood ThermoWood®
The saunas at Allas Pool were refurbished with Luna SHP 5/4×4 and Luna SHP 5/4×6. The ThermoWood® process makes the wood stable in heat and humidity, with low thermal conductivity that remains pleasant against the skin. The treatment also gives the wood a naturally aromatic, softly smoky scent that enhances the sauna atmosphere. In addition, Lunawood ThermoWood® is entirely free of chemicals and toxins, making it a safe and healthy choice for indoor wellbeing spaces such as saunas.
