Lookout Mountain West Brow is a new mountain residence in Rising Fawn, Georgia, shaped by a modern architectural language and a strong mid-century influence. Completed in 2026, the project brings together developer Ryne Van Gorp, designer Nan Hanks, architect David Lyons, and builder Lebron Jones.

Shaped by the Mountain

The house follows the natural slope, working around the site’s existing rock formations and trees. Its western elevation opens toward expansive sunset views, while the surrounding tree canopy frames the landscape and adds depth to the experience of the home. White brick, dark metal roofing and panels, sand-textured panels, and stained wood create a restrained material palette defined by proportion, texture, and a close relationship with the mountain setting.

Warmth Through Natural Wood

Lunawood thermally modified White Ash was used extensively across the exterior wall cladding and rear decking. Finished with two coats of Cabot Australian Timber Oil in Jarrah Brown, the wood has a rich tone that emphasizes its natural grain. Set against the white masonry and dark metal surfaces, the Ash softens the harder materials and connects the contemporary architecture to the surrounding forest. Its natural appearance and long-term durability made real wood a considered choice for both the visual character and performance of the home.

Detailed for Long-Term Performance

The exterior installation was designed to support ventilation, moisture control, and natural wood movement. Stainless-steel screws were used throughout, while the siding was installed over Quarrix ProTect Furring Strips to create a ventilated rainscreen with airflow behind the cladding. On the decks, Exodeck Quick Clips raise the boards from the joists and allow them to move naturally. Together with the protective finish, these details reflect the project’s wider approach to longevity: selecting quality materials, installing them carefully, and creating a home intended to serve its setting for decades.
