Supplied by Northern Ohio Lumber & Timber, Lunawood products play a central role in the 2025 HBA Home for the Holidays in Cleveland, Ohio, located near Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Built by Petros Homes, this modern-rustic residence showcases how thermally modified wood can be used across exterior cladding, decking, beams, and interior surfaces to create a durable, low-maintenance home that connects architecture seamlessly with nature, all while supporting Make-A-Wish® and skilled-trades education.

Designed in Dialogue with Nature
With Cuyahoga Valley National Park just beyond the property, the design was inspired directly by the surrounding Metro Parks. Petros Homes’ architectural designer Jake Buss and interior designer Tricia Soltesz approached the project with a clear guiding principle, bringing the outdoors in.
Earth-toned finishes, natural textures, and expansive windows frame rear-yard views, allowing forest light and seasonal change to become part of the interior experience. The modern-rustic aesthetic balances clean architectural lines with the warmth of wood, creating spaces that feel grounded, welcoming, and timeless.
Lunawood as a Unifying Material
Natural wood plays a central role throughout the home, both visually and functionally. A range of Lunawood ThermoWood® and thermally modified timber products were selected for exterior and interior cladding, trim, beams, and decking, all chosen for their durability, stability, and natural beauty.
Used materials include:
-
Thermally Modified Poplar – Panel System 1×6
-
ThermoWood® Nordic Spruce – Luna Layer 1×6
-
ThermoWood® Nordic Pine – Luna SHP 2×4
-
Thermally Modified Ash – Decking 5/4×6 HF
Sourced through Northern Ohio Lumber & Timber, the Lunawood surfaces enhance the home’s connection to nature while delivering reliable performance in Ohio’s seasonal climate. In protected areas, the wood was left natural, while exposed exterior surfaces were surface treated to prevent natural weathering.

Seamless Indoor–Outdoor Living
Spaces for gathering were a key focus of the design. The home’s expanded indoor-outdoor entertainment areas, including an oversized deck and outdoor fireplace, blur the line between interior comfort and exterior landscape. Lunawood’s dimensional stability made it possible to use real wood in high-performance applications such as decking, exterior cladding, and beam wraps, without compromising durability or maintenance expectations.
The result is a cohesive material language that flows effortlessly from inside to out, reinforcing the home’s strong relationship with its surroundings.
Built by Community, for Community
More than 40 sponsors contributed materials, labor, and expertise to bring the 2025 Home for the Holidays to life. This collective effort reflects the heart of the project, uniting craftsmanship and shared values to support families, children, and future trades professionals.
