Lunawood Plays a Key Role in the Allas Pool in Helsinki
At the heart of a major renovation at Allas Pool, located in the very center of Helsinki, was the complete replacement of the pool deck and the renewal of the sauna benches. The goal of the refurbishment was to enhance comfort, safety, and durability in a space that welcomes more than 250,000 visitors annually and remains open every day of the year.
Lunawood was selected as a partner for the renovation thanks to the proven performance of its thermally modified Nordic spruce in demanding, marine and humid conditions. Long lifespan, low maintenance requirements, and Finnish origin were key factors in the decision-making process.
“Allas Sea Pool is approaching its 10-year anniversary, and it was time for a major surface renovation of the decking. With such a high volume of visitors, the materials must withstand both time and heavy wear. We wanted a partner that could offer not only a high-quality Finnish product but also local service. Lunawood’s ThermoWood stood out for its low-maintenance properties and hidden fixing system, which protects the surface and extends its lifespan,” says Antti Lehto, COO of Allas Pool.
Lunawood – A Sustainable and Aesthetic Choice
The material used in the renovation, Lunawood’s thermally modified spruce, is a sustainable, non-toxic wood product manufactured in Finland. It is ideal for outdoor and wet-area applications, such as spas and saunas. Produced from PEFC- and FSC-certified Nordic wood, it is modified using only heat and steam – completely free from chemicals. The result is a dimensionally stable, fully natural material that is pleasant even under bare feet.
“The Allas Pool renovation is a significant reference for Lunawood – not only because of its central location and visibility but also because it reflects shared values: sustainability, well-being, connection to nature, and Nordic aesthetics.
