Set on the oceanfront of Vancouver Island, this custom family home brings together Scandinavian clarity and West Coast warmth in a calm, architectural expression. Designed by Jamie Banfield Design Inc. as a full-scope project—from architectural concept and permitting to interiors and styling—the home was envisioned as a forever space: layered, livable, and deeply connected to its coastal setting. Clean lines, generous openings, and a restrained material palette, including Lunawood cladding, establish a timeless framework that allows daily life, light, and landscape to take center stage.
A defining architectural element is the use of Lunawood’s Luna Panel System cladding, selected for its durability, sustainability, and refined Nordic aesthetic. The varying panel widths create a visually engaging rhythm across the façade, while the wood will naturally weather to an elegant silver-grey over time. The Lunawood cladding wraps the exterior façade and continues seamlessly into the soffits and vaulted ceilings, creating a unified material language that blurs the boundary between outside and in.
Paired with matte black and bronze architectural metals, the Luna Panel System brings warmth, texture, and long-term performance to the building envelope while anchoring the home visually to its coastal surroundings.

Material Continuity & Living with the Landscape
The design celebrates continuity—of materials, spaces, and experiences. Expansive glazing and folding doors open the interiors to ocean views, allowing indoor living areas to flow naturally into outdoor kitchens and lounge zones. The Lunawood-clad ceilings extend this sense of shelter and rhythm, enhancing acoustics and contributing to a calm, tactile atmosphere that evolves with changing daylight and weather conditions.
Inside, a rich yet restrained palette adds depth without excess. Dark walnut millwork, natural marbles, locally sourced quartzites, and custom-laid Haro flooring introduce texture and warmth, while carefully curated lighting—integrated within the Lunawood ceiling surfaces—supports a lighting concept that shifts from soft daylight to intimate evening ambience. Every design decision responds to the site: sunset views guide gathering spaces, coastal winds inform openings, and colors echo sand, stone, driftwood, and charcoal skies.
The result is a home that lives in rhythm with nature—designed not as a statement piece, but as a lasting setting for everyday moments and long-term memories. Grounded in material honesty and thoughtful detailing, the project reflects a shared design philosophy: architecture that feels calm, purposeful, and deeply connected to place.
