Wooden house Villa Prykä
Villa Prykä is a two-storey wooden home with a curved façade, located on the edge of an estuary. Its design centers around light, views, and a spacious balcony, and it has been thoughtfully tailored to support the daily life of a family of four. Villa Prykä achieves a seamless blend of aesthetics and functionality — without compromise.
The name Prykä was inspired by the balcony’s shape; in the Oulu dialect, it means bridge or command deck, naturally referencing the maritime heritage of the Hietasaari district.
The extensive exterior cladding is made from Lunawood Luna Trim HN 20×142 hidden nailing panel, a thermally modified pine panel left untreated to weather naturally. Originally caramel-brown, the panels will gradually take on a beautiful grey patina, complementing the already grey-painted panels. The sharp-edged vertical Luna Trim profiles create narrow shadow gaps, and the hidden nailing system ensures a refined, screw-free finish. The panels are made in Finland using patented ThermoWood® technology without chemicals, from PEFC-certified Finnish pine. The façade rhythm is enhanced with Lunawood Luna SHP 42×92 battens, which also provide lightness and privacy to the atrium courtyard. Due to their lightweight character, the same materials were also used in the design of the doors.
From the upper-level living area, residents can enjoy panoramic views of the estuary and city skyline. Large sliding glass doors open to the balcony, creating an outdoor living room. The curved sculptural façade, crowned by the balcony, is a defining architectural element.
On the balcony, the dimensionally stable Luna SHP 42×92 battens add texture and serve as sun and privacy screens. The decking is made of brushed Lunawood Luna SHP Profix 3 32×166 spruce, with its beautifully enhanced wood grain. The hidden fixing system completes the look — delivering a durable, stable, and maintenance-free surface that will grey naturally over time.
Lunawood Indoors – Design with Natural Elegance
Indoors, Lunawood’s resin-free products take center stage in the sauna areas. The back wall and ceiling are clad with Lunawood’s new Luna Duo panels, with matching Luna SHP 42×42 battens used as upper benches to create a unified rhythm. The wide lower bench is made from massive Luna SHP 40×185 planks. Lunawood’s patented heat treatment process modifies the wood’s cell structure, improving resistance to cracking, warping, and decay, while ensuring dimensional stability for years with minimal need for renovation.
Sauna and bathroom conditions inevitably include temperature and humidity fluctuations. Lunawood’s low moisture content keeps the wood stable and resistant to water absorption and dirt. Its low thermal conductivity makes it pleasant to sit on and lean against, even in high heat.

A Separate Outdoor Sauna – Comfort and Everyday Luxury
The property also features a detached outdoor sauna, adding both luxury and functionality to everyday living. Its exterior cladding matches the main building with Luna Trim panels, and the terrace features the same brushed Luna SHP Profix 3 ThermoWood® spruce decking. Both products are characterized by small, round knots that contribute to a warm and natural appearance.
For the interior tone of the sauna, the aim was to create a naturally weathered grey look — achieved with Luna Arctic Triple panels, suitable for both interior and exterior use. The benches are made from wide Luna SHP 40×185 boards, toned in NCS S 4502-R, creating a cohesive and serene atmosphere.
