Our aim is no wood waste sent to landfill. We have been able to establish a successful business based on the circular economy, even at our own mill in Iisalmi. One example of this is the production of Lunawood Thermowood Composite TWPC.
The production of Thermowood generates side streams, like planing dust. We use this dust in the production of Lunawood Thermowood Composite TWPC. It contains 65% Thermowood fibres (planing dust) and 20% high-quality Fortum Circo® recycled plastics. Thanks to our side stream, Lunawood Thermowood Composite has the same features and benefits as Lunawood Thermowood, making it the most stable wood composite decking available on the market. It is more resistant to temperature changes than any other composite material and is highly suitable for all weather conditions.
By producing composite decking material from our by-products, we are able to sequester carbon dioxide emissions for a longer time compared to energy use directly or as wood pellets. A certain part of our planing dust is sold for the production of wood pellets.
We are constantly searching for other circular economy solutions and are continuously considering new uses for by-products.
