The 3AE Passive House is a contemporary residential project designed by architect Lukáš Pejsar at 3AE Architects. Located in the Czech countryside near Prague, the house represents modern passive architecture defined by clarity, precision, and material-driven design. The project features a horizontally installed, naturally greying Lunawood ThermoWood® facade, adding visual rhythm and interest to the building volume. A wrap-around Lunawood terrace extends the living spaces outdoors, with the sheltered lounge end marked by a distinctive V-shaped structural column that adds a strong architectural character to the outdoor space.

Designed according to passive house principles, the building focuses on energy efficiency, long-term durability, and a calm architectural expression. Clean volumes, carefully considered proportions, and high-performance structures form the foundation of the design. Natural materials play a key role throughout the project, with different wood-based products used both indoors and outdoors to create a warm, coherent, and timeless atmosphere.

Lunawood ThermoWood® Facade – Naturally Greying and Precise

The exterior is clad with Lunawood ThermoWood®, a sustainable and chemical-free material that is ideally suited for modern facades. Over time, the untreated thermowood develops a natural silver-grey patina, allowing the building to age beautifully while blending into its natural surroundings.

Thanks to its excellent dimensional stability, Lunawood ThermoWood® enables precise mitre joints and sharp corner detailing. Accurate angles and clean junctions are achieved effortlessly, supporting the architectural clarity of the design and ensuring a refined, long-lasting facade solution.

Facade product

  • Luna Parallelogram SSS 20×92 – slanted Lunawood ThermoWood® cladding that creates a dynamic facade rhythm with subtle shadow play, while offering outstanding durability in exterior conditions.

Lunawood Terrace – A Sheltered Outdoor Living Area

The terrace is fully built from Lunawood ThermoWood® and wraps around the house, forming a strong visual and functional connection between the interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. The thermowood terrace enhances the architectural concept by extending the living areas outdoors with a natural, durable material that remains comfortable underfoot and requires minimal maintenance.

At one end of the building, the terrace expands into a larger covered area, creating a sheltered outdoor space that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Protected from both sun and rain, this covered section is ideal for spending time outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The design of the covered terrace cleverly combines different height levels. The upper level is intended for relaxed lounging and social interaction, while a slightly lower level is dedicated to dining. This subtle variation in levels helps to naturally zone the space, making the terrace both versatile and inviting.
