The new Day Care Center in Sartaguda is a compact public building at the northern edge of town, designed to strengthen the community’s network of social services while staying rooted in the landscape and material character of southern Navarra. To achieve the seamless connection with the environment, the project relies on a carefully considered material palette that defines the building’s expressive character.
Lunawood ThermoWood® cladding shapes the building’s visual identity, establishing an authentic connection with nature. Softening the structure’s geometric lines, the thermally modified Lunawood cladding brings tactile warmth and an inviting human scale to the main entrance and porch areas. This natural texture is paired with a contrasting metal envelope on the remaining sides, achieving a sophisticated, contemporary material balance.
To optimize natural comfort, the building’s layout is strategically oriented to block the prevailing regional winds. This climate-responsive design allows the primary façades to open generously to daylight, while a prominent porch serves as a fluid transition between interior and exterior—capturing winter sun and offering summer shade.
