In 2024–2025, the CineStar Kristallpalast in Bremen, originally opened in 1999, underwent a comprehensive modernization with an investment of seven million euros. The result: a cinema experience that is not only more comfortable but also warmer and more welcoming in its materiality and design.

The renovation focused on reimagining both interiors and user experience. All eleven auditoriums were upgraded with fewer, more spacious premium seating options, including the fully redesigned flagship V-MAX auditorium featuring cutting-edge laser projection. New self-service kiosks replaced traditional counters, while a cozy lounge area now welcomes guests in place of the former bar.

Lunawood as a Defining Element

A key aspect of the redesign is the use of wood-inspired materials and surfaces, aligning with the architectural identity of the original Kristallpalast. The warm, natural tones of Lunawood ThermoWood® products are featured prominently in lounge and foyer areas, where Lunawood 3D panelling brings tactile and visual warmth.

Lunawood is featured in:

  • entrance façades of the cinema and surrounding venues (Ni Hao restaurant, Strikee’s Bowling Center, and the children’s play zone) featuring Luna Duo

  • interior walls and design accents, contributing to a natural, calming atmosphere features Luna Trio

  • benches and green plant boxes panelled with Luna Trio

The first floor of the building had stricter fire safety requirements and special attention had to be paid to the fire class of the materials. Lunawood products can be treated with the BurnBlock® impregnation method to Euro fire class B. Consequently, all Luna Duo panels received an industrial fire protection treatment prior to installation.

Luna Trio is displayed on indoor walls and in green plant boxes.

Combined with two-tone flooring, modern lighting elements, and LED-integrated seating, the Lunawood details reinforce the cinema’s shift toward a sustainable, design-led environment that puts comfort and aesthetics at the forefront.
