Casa A – The winner of ‘The Building of the Year 2020 Award’ in Archdaily

The winner of ‘The Building of the Year 2020 Award’ in Archdaily

This contemporary villa is located in an urban area of Guimarães in Portugal.

Privacy and altimetry are the focus point in this design by REM’A arquitectos. The extracellular voids encompass the exterior areas, increasing the space and views.

The domestic voids encircle the interior and private space. The volume of the higher level in this design has a geometrical entrance, designated by a triangular frame.

The main volume is cladded with Lunawood Thermowood Façade, assembled in a slanted order, nestling the private area in durable and sustainable exterior cladding. The gray color of the naturally aged Thermowood, will meet over time with the base of the project.

Lunawood Thermowood Façade is the ideal exterior cladding for Mediterranean climates like in Portugal. The material is suitable for any climate and its crowning  trait is its lowered equilibrium moisture content making it dimensionally stable and the material retains its shape far better than untreated wood.

Casa A is the winner of The Building of the Year 2020 Award in ArchDaily in category of ‘Best Applied Product’. Read more in news

Ideal cladding for Mediterranean climate

Lunawood Thermowood Façade is the ideal exterior cladding for Mediterranean climates like in Portugal. The material is suitable for any climate and its crowning  trait is its lowered equilibrium moisture content making it dimensionally stable and the material retains its shape far better than untreated wood. Over time the cladding weathers beautifully when left untreated.
