Preila Lifeguard Station was originally built in 1984 and and refurbished by the DO architects in 2017.
Lightweight sails and smooth, silver-weathered thermowood decks elegantly complement the sandy dunes and offer a perfect place to chill in this UNESCO protected area. In this wild and vulnerable landscape, battered by constant winds, a small structure provides refuge in the dunes. This once monofunctional construction has been delicately deconstructed into a light and inviting public gathering space – a unique sunset viewpoint on Lithuania’s Curonian Spit.

The Lifeguard station features naturally weathered Lunawood Thermowood decking which withstands humid marine climates, even without surface treatment.
